BPSO: Man shot after attempting to run over deputies in stolen patrol car; sheriff’s office investigating

Man Attempts To Run Over Deputies With Stolen Patrol Car

In an audacious incident, a man was shot after he attempted to run over deputies with a stolen patrol car in Haughton, Louisiana.

The Call and Confrontation

The drama unfolded at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, when the Bossier Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around harassing phone calls in the 3100 block of Jamerson Road. Upon reaching the location, the first officer on the scene encountered a man named Lorison Johnson, 39, brandishing a knife. As backup arrived and a rearrest attempt was initiated, Johnson managed to overpower the officials and leap into a Bossier Sheriff’s Office (BSO) patrol vehicle.

Johnson, armed and dangerous, allegedly manoeuvred the vehicle towards the deputies in a direct attempt to run them over, leading two of them to discharge their firearms in response.

The Aftermath

The chase ended abruptly when Johnson crashed the vehicle, allowing for his capture. Suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, he was rushed to Ochsner LSU Hospital for treatment. According to BSO, his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

A leg injury was sustained by one of the deputies during the confrontation. He was promptly treated at Willis-Knighton Bossier and later discharged.

Charges Laid Against the Perpetrator

Lorison Johnson finds himself faced with a bevy of charges, including:

  • Two counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • Two counts of aggravated assault
  • One count of simple burglary
  • One count of resisting an officer
  • One count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • One count of resisting an officer with force/violence
  • One count of improper telephone communication

Investigative authorities hint at the possibility of more charges being announced as the investigation progresses.

Investigation Underway

The investigation into the incident is still in its early stages, with authorities working diligently to piece together the sequence of events. More information shall be made public once it is gathered and verified.
