In an audacious incident, a man was shot after he attempted to run over deputies with a stolen patrol car in Haughton, Louisiana.
The drama unfolded at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, when the Bossier Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around harassing phone calls in the 3100 block of Jamerson Road. Upon reaching the location, the first officer on the scene encountered a man named Lorison Johnson, 39, brandishing a knife. As backup arrived and a rearrest attempt was initiated, Johnson managed to overpower the officials and leap into a Bossier Sheriff’s Office (BSO) patrol vehicle.
Johnson, armed and dangerous, allegedly manoeuvred the vehicle towards the deputies in a direct attempt to run them over, leading two of them to discharge their firearms in response.
The chase ended abruptly when Johnson crashed the vehicle, allowing for his capture. Suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body, he was rushed to Ochsner LSU Hospital for treatment. According to BSO, his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
A leg injury was sustained by one of the deputies during the confrontation. He was promptly treated at Willis-Knighton Bossier and later discharged.
