For those unable to attend, a Parade Tracker app will provide live updates, while the event will be covered across various media platforms.
Get ready to throw on your beads and step on out because Shreveport is about to come alive with the festive spirit of Mardi Gras! This year’s celebrations will be held on Tuesday, March 4, and the excitement is already building with two big parades lined up for the weekend before. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 1, when the Krewe of Gemini parade takes center stage, and don’t miss the ever-popular Krewe of Highland parade on Sunday, March 2, kicking off at 2 p.m.
This year, Shreveport is excited to have Caddo Commissioner John-Paul Young as the grand marshal for the Krewe of Highland parade. It’s a fantastic honor, and you can bet he’s ready to help usher in the fun as the city celebrates its 30th anniversary of this beloved event. The Krewe of Highland has planned a super special eco-friendly theme, emphasizing sustainability and a greener future for all of us!
This year’s lineup of royalty is nothing short of impressive! Captain Josh Jennings, Queen Emily Hamann, King D.J. Gardner, and Co-Captain Brie Silva will be leading the parade, ensuring it’s a colorful and spirited celebration of all things Mardi Gras. Their creativity and enthusiasm promise a vibrant display for all spectators!
The parade will kick off from Gilbert Drive and Gregg Avenue, making its way through several streets including Gladstone Boulevard, Creswell Avenue, Herndon Avenue, and Centenary Boulevard, before looping back to Gladstone. A reminder for everyone in the area: streets along the parade route will close at 12 p.m. on parade day (and Gilbert Drive will close bright and early at 7 a.m.!), so make sure to plan your parking accordingly!
One of the funniest and quirkiest traditions of the Krewe of Highland is their signature throw—hot dogs! Alongside these, parade-goers can expect to catch SPAM sandwiches and Moon Pies. That’s right, folks; you’ll have a delicious souvenir to munch on while enjoying the festivities!
Mardi Gras isn’t just about fun and frolic; it also leads to a significant economic impact for Shreveport. Last year, the parades generated more than $9 million directly and over $16 million in total economic activity, including all the indirect spending by attendees. It’s a party that helps the local economy thrive!
For those who can’t make it out to the parades, fear not! There will be a Parade Tracker activated for real-time updates of the events on the day of the Krewe of Highland parade. You’ll be able to follow along right from your phone using a handy mobile app. And for the die-hard fans in attendance, don’t forget to share all of your fabulous parade photos on social media with the hashtag #KTBSMardiGras; let’s keep the Mardi Gras excitement rolling!
Finally, for those who want to get in on the action without leaving home, live coverage of the Krewe of Highland parade will commence at 2 p.m. across various platforms. It’s sure to be a fantastic day filled with laughter, creativity, and lots of beads!
So, let’s gear up for an unforgettable Mardi Gras in Shreveport! The parties are about to begin!
