Shreveport Railroad Museum to celebrate National Train Day

Shreveport Railroad Museum will celebrate National Train Day with tours, talks and demonstrations made possible by a sponsorship from the Shreveport Downtown Development Authority. Shreveport’s history is filled with stories of trains, both the passenger trains that made multiple daily stops at the old Union Depot, Central Station, and T&P Station in downtown Shreveport to the trains that continue to haul goods across North America. Shreveport Railroad Museum tour guides Jason Busey and Jim McClure will be on hand to answer any questions. Talks and exhibits will happen in the air-conditioned Ozone Room.

Schedule of Events

  • 11:30 am: Dave Bland – Shreveport Railroad Museum – History of Railroading in Shreveport.
  • 12:15 pm: Matt Tessier – D&R No. 10 – Learn all about the amazing history of the locomotive at Ford Park and future plans for No. 10.
  • 1:00 pm: Bishop Taylor-Louisiana Rail Productions. Are you interested in taking videos of trains? It’s a fun pastime – and you never know what you might see. Bishop will give you all the scoop.
  • 1:45 pm: Don Kimmel – Operation Lifesaver. Learn how Operation Lifesaver works with railroads to save lives.
  • 2:15 pm: Mike and Mark Mangham, Twin Blends: Northwest Louisiana History Hunters will be here to tell us what they do and how they do it, PLUS they will have photos of streetcars in Shreveport.
