The series of murals is a collaboration between Shreveport artists and Caddo Parish’s poet laureate to create stunning murals combining visual and literary arts. On March 14, a new mural will be revealed at the Put a Poem on It event, starting at 4 p.m. at the Highland Center, 520 Olive Street.
The project is the work of Caddo Parish’s Poet Laureate Poetic X and artist Paige Powell. The mural design will be placed in the patio area of the Highland Center. Poetic X selected local artist Paige Powell to design the mural based on one of his poems, Keep Hope Alive.
During the event, Poetic X will perform the poem and then the public art will be revealed. The project, Put a Poem On It is supported by the Caddo Parish Commission. Poetic X previously selected artist, Joshua Chambers for the design of a mural placed at Chimp Haven, one of the largest chimpanzee sanctuaries in the world, located in Keithville, Louisiana. The mural was named “The Chimp Life”.
