Man Involved in Officer-Related Shooting Now Behind Bars in Bossier Parish

Bossier Parish, LA – Suspect Booked into Jail After Officer-Involved Shooting

39-year-old Lorison Johnson, who was involved in a shooting incident with Bossier deputies over the weekend, has been released from the hospital and subsequently incarcerated. Johnson is scheduled for his initial court appearance in Bossier District Court via video link at 9 a.m. At the hearing, Johnson confirmed that he would be securing his own legal representation.

Charges and Bond Amount

Johnson faces several charges, with his bail set at just under $1.9 million. His criminal record, as seen in Bossier District Court records, includes three offenses dating back to 2016. Most recently, in January 2022, Johnson pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm.

Details of the Recent Incident

According to Cpl. Matt Gaydos of Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was armed with a knife when deputies arrived following a call about harassing phone calls in Haughton. While attempting to apprehend Johnson, he resisted arrest, managed to get inside a patrol vehicle, and tried to strike the officers. During the episode, two deputies retaliated, shooting at Johnson. He then crashed the patrol car and was promptly arrested.

Upon capture, Johnson, who had been shot in the upper body, was rushed to Ochsner LSU Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Concurrently, one of the officers involved sustained a lower leg injury, and was taken to Willis Knighton Bossier for treatment before being released.

Multiple Counts for Johnson

Johnson’s charges consist of two counts each of first-degree attempted murder and aggravated assault. He is also facing one count each of improper telephone communications, simple burglary, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting an officer, and resisting an officer by force or violence.

Records from Bossier Court show that Johnson’s most recent arrest prior to the current charges was in December 2021, when he was apprehended for two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. On June 27, 2022, he pleaded guilty to one charge, and although sentenced to one year, he was granted credit for time served since his arrest.

Past Convictions

Johnson’s list of previous arrests and convictions is extensive. In April 2017, he was charged with possession of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal possession of stolen items worth over $1,500. Later that November, the DA’s office dismissed the drug charges, but Johnson admitted guilt to the charge of illegal possession of stolen items over $5,000. His sentence was seven years, although it was later suspended and replaced with three-year probation. Johnson was also mandated to make restitution in the amount of $5,200 over the probation period.

In April 2016, Johnson faced a charge of aggravated battery, which later got reduced to simple battery. After pleading guilty in June 2018, he was handed a 150-day jail term, though credit was given for time already served.
