SPAR has over 60 parks for you to explore and enjoy. It builds and maintains Shreveport landmarks such as Festival Plaza, Independence Stadium, Riverview Park, Riverview Hall, Randall T. Moore, the Municipal Auditorium, and Government Plaza. These facilities serve as the vibrant heart of the Shreveport community, presenting theatrical productions, music concerts, sporting events, meeting spaces, and much more.

Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation (SPAR) offers cultural opportunities and leisure services to Shreveport residents and visitors by developing a vital parks and recreation system that promotes natural space, boosts the local economy, and improves community service.

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation is in charge of the upkeep, appearance, and operation of city facilities such as:

  • Government offices
  • Assembly facilities
  • Fire stations
  • Community centers
  • Athletic facilities
  • Parks
  • Cemeteries
  • Rights-of-way
  • Flower beds
  • All municipal grounds


SPAR operates many special event facilities, including convention and meeting facilities, entertainment venues, and stadiums. Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation is also responsible for programming, scheduling, equipment facilitation, site preparation, set-up, and clean-up.

SPAR manages

  • 63 parks
  • 16 recreation centers
  • 5 swimming pools
  • 46 Playgrounds
  • 300 flower/ rose beds
  • 4 cemeteries


The city also includes 28 highly prominent areas, including the Barnwell Garden and Art Center, Festival Plaza, Randall T. Moore, and Municipal Auditorium. Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation also fixes and maintains 126 city-owned properties’ plumbing, painting, electrical, and roofing systems, among other things. SPAR’s 52 city-owned facilities create a clean and safe environment.

SPAR serves over 400,000 youth and adults in our community center each year, as well as 8,400 participants in track, basketball, baseball, and softball leagues, 76,000 citizens and tourists visiting Independence Stadium, and 1.5 million visitors and citizens at festivals, special events, parades, trade shows, and conventions.
