There’s a world out here for those creatives who are fashion designers. Like, people need clothes, they go out. So just go after your dream, and don’t let nobody stop you,” said Latasha Henderson, a season 15 contestant of Project Runway. Now she’s living her dream as she has broken a fashion world record and worked with the top entertainers in Hollywood. Currently, she is advocating for environmental safety in the fashion industry. She’s now into making fashion pieces out of recyclable materials. “I’m going to this stage again. I did this years ago. I’m doing a lot of, like, upcycle pieces. And so these are made out of blankets, believe it or not. Like these are made out of blanket blankets, au pair jeans, because in the fashion world, you know, clothes get lost and they do become waste. I’m trying to contribute, give my contribution to that again,” said Henderson.
Henderson has worked with the top entertainers in the music industry. She’s also worked on movie sets. In the future, Henderson plans to open up her own fashion Boutique. “I’m working on it because I feel like we’re losing the art in the fashion world of being able to touch the person. So I’m most definitely working on at least a showroom. If nothing else. So people can call me because I’ve been getting a lot of wedding orders and stuff like that.,” said Henderson.
The fashion designer is also teaching design students about fashion. She is hosting design classes for them. Henderson will also be in Georgia at the end of this month to be on a movie set. She will assist in designing costumes and clothing for the actors and actresses. She told KTBS how she is able to manage her busy schedule. “God, patience, and I’m not going to lie — having a good support system. When you get that, you can get everything done that you need to. And saying no to some stuff too, because you got to get what’s best for you and make sure you overwhelm yourself again will be no good anyway,” said Henderson.
Henderson says she wants the Shreveport community to know that they can support her in a variety of ways. “Just show up at whatever fashion show I do. Buy a t-shirt. If not, share a post. That’s free. So just showing support in that type of way,” said Henderson.
