Sponsor Our ArticlesAn unforeseen incident has shaken the Shreveport neighbourhood as an extensive fire erupted in a two-story house on Holly Street, close to East Kings Highway. The calamitous ordeal initiated a parade of small, rapid explosions within the residence which pushed fire squads to combat the fire from the house’s exterior, rather than the customary approach from within.
Around 17 fire units promptly answered the distress call, dispatched around 3:34 p.m. on Sunday, June 23rd. “At this point, our crew remains on the scene, controlling any remaining hot spots to ensure the fire’s complete extinguishment,” commented Fire Department spokesperson Jeffrey Witte.
During the sudden eruption of the fire, the house was occupied, but fortunately, the resident managed to escape safely before the fire team’s arrival. Eyewitnesses from the vicinity stated that someone was cooking and stepped outside just before smoke crawled out of the house. An attempt was made to control the fire using a fire extinguisher, but the fire had already accelerated its scale.
Accounting for the safety of the firefighting team, Witte mentioned, “A defensive, exterior attack was initiated as there were some small explosions happening within the residence. As of now, the cause behind these explosions remains unclear. We prioritised the safety of our firefighters and pulled everyone out of the building to counter the fire from outside”.
As the conditions inside the house deteriorated, an unspecified amount of reported ammunition also caught fire, leading to escalated concerns for the firefighting team.
The American Red Cross was summoned to assist the resident with their immediate needs post the fire incident. The authorities have assured that this is yet a developing story and further information will be made available as the basis for the fire and subsequent small explosions is unearthed.
In light of the current incident, a timely reminder for citizens to ensure the safe storage of potentially explosive materials and to take necessary precautions while cooking is paramount. It is advised to remain alert of breaking news and weather updates in their local region for related developments.
