Shreveport Director of Council Affairs to Serve on National League of Cities

The Director of Council Affairs of Shreveport, Louisiana, RJ Johnson, has been elected to serve a one-year term on the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee and Council on Youth, Education, and Families.

Appointment of Johnson into the National League of Cities

On his new role, Johnson will provide strategic oversight and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on critical national issues including workforce development, education, early childhood, public health care, mental health parity, and immigration reform. The announcement was made by NLC President Mayor David Sander of Rancho Cordova, California.

Johnson stated, “I am honored to represent our city with these appointments to serve on both the NLC Human Development Federal Advocacy Committee and the Council on Youth, Education, and Families, recognizing the profound impact it holds for the City of Shreveport. Together, we can shape a brighter future for our wonderful city, where every resident has the opportunity to flourish and contribute to the overall well-being of our community.”

Johnson’s role on the NLC’s Human Development Committee and Council on Youth, Education, and Families

As a member of NLC’s Human Development Committee, his role will be to shape the NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns, and villages before Congress, within the administration, and locally In his capacity on the NLC’s Council on Youth, Education, and Families.

Johnson will work among a diverse group of local leaders to promote collaboration, networking, and the development of resources and programs that are beneficial to American localities. He will focus on creating initiatives that can be replicated across different communities, regardless of their size, demographics, or location.
