Robinson Film Center in Shreveport to Host StoryTellHERS Event Highlighting Works of Female Filmmakers

Shreveport: Robinson Film Center to host StoryTellHERS event to showcase female filmmakers

This week, KSLA’s Biskie Duncan sat down with Executive Director Wendell Riley to get the latest on what’s going on at Robinson Film Center. Robinson Film Center is a nonprofit arts organization that showcases independent, foreign, and classic films in downtown Shreveport. Currently, the center is showing Civil War, an A24 studios’ film directed by Alex Garland. “The film is generating a lot of fun as people are talking about it and encouraging others to see it. So, we want people to come see it in RFC,” Riley said.

Another movie the film center is showing is called Perfect Days. “It’s a Japanese film about a janitor, who has a very mundane life, but he sees joy in the little things. And his niece comes to visit. So, it’s their journey of growth together and him showing her how to appreciate just perfect days. And we like to counter program you know, something big and bombastic, like Civil War with a quieter film,” Riley explained.

StoryTellHERS Event

Happening next week on Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. is StoryTellHERS. This year’s lineup, which was curated by local filmmaker Kristi J. Woodard, includes Spooky Crew by Erin Bennett, Off Sides by Kaitlyn Brown, Daffodils in December by Emma Francis, How Do I Tell You This by Lara Hill, Pink Suit Black Suit by Jaya McSharma, and CANS Can’t Stand by Megan Plotka, according to the RFC website.

“It’s a third year we’re doing it. It’s a showcase of local female filmmakers. So, we’ll show five short films made by female filmmakers, and they will then talk about their work with the audience. It was a big hit the first two years, so we’re encouraging people to come,” Riley said.
