Education Celebration Event

Shreveport Celebrates Roy Griggs and His Contributions to Education

Shreveport, La. — The sun was shining bright on October 3rd, 2024, with temperatures soaring to a warm 91 degrees Fahrenheit. It was the perfect day to gather and celebrate the remarkable impact of one man on the local community. At Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA), an event was held to honor Roy Griggs, an inspiring entrepreneur and philanthropist who has made significant contributions to the education sector.

A Night of Celebration

The evening kicked off with a warm reception full of friends, family, and supporters of Griggs, who have all witnessed his dedication to fostering education and entrepreneurship. Griggs spoke candidly to guests about his passion for empowering students through the Roy Griggs School of Business, a program he partnered with SUSLA three years ago.

“I partnered with Southern about three years ago on the Roy Griggs School of Business, working with the business department, helping students in the business department,” he shared. Griggs emphasized the importance of hard work, self-belief, and dreaming big. “You’re going to have some failures in life, but you got to pick yourself up and get back in the race. If you never quit, you’ll be successful,” he encouraged the audience with genuine sincerity.

A Day of Learning

This celebration wasn’t just about reminiscing on accomplishments; it was also about building the future. Earlier that day, Caddo School students, along with participants in DECA, FBLA, and other business electives, got a unique opportunity to join SUSLA students. They took part in campus tours and workshops designed to enhance their business acumen.

The workshops covered an array of essential topics like financial literacy, interview skills, and social media marketing. These sessions aimed to equip the young attendees with vital skills they will need as they venture into the business world. This collaboration highlights the importance of engaging students in practical experiences that prepare them for real-life challenges.

The Mission of the Roy Griggs School of Business

The Roy Griggs School of Business is not just a name; it embodies a mission focused on maximizing student success. Whether students aim to jump straight into the workforce or continue their education at a four-year institution, the school is committed to providing them with a solid foundation of knowledge in various fields related to business. It also aims to foster the communication skills necessary for advancement in today’s competitive 21st-century business environment.

The support from Griggs and other generous donors has paved the way for numerous scholarships and enriching opportunities for those pursuing degrees through the business program at SUSLA, making a profound difference in students’ lives.

A Bright Future Ahead

The event was a beautiful reminder of how a community can come together to celebrate individuals who give back and uplift future generations. As the celebrations concluded and the sun started to set, you couldn’t help but feel inspired by Roy Griggs’ words about perseverance and dreaming big. The message was clear: with determination and support, the future of business leaders in Shreveport is bright.

Conclusion

As Shreveport continues to thrive with sunny skies and its growing educational community, the work being done through initiatives like the Roy Griggs School of Business will undoubtedly help shape the next wave of successful entrepreneurs.
