Shreveport Seniors Gear Up for Empowering Safety Workshop

SHREVEPORT, La. – This Saturday, seniors aged 55 and up are invited to join a special workshop dedicated to situational awareness, presented by the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Community Relations and Crime Prevention Unit. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our beloved elders to become more aware and confident when navigating public spaces!

What’s the Buzz About?

Captain LaTienda Pierre from the CPSO shared some exciting details about the upcoming events and expressed the sheriff’s office’s commitment to enhancing safety within the community. “We noticed a growing need for programs that specifically focus on senior citizens and their unique challenges,” Captain Pierre said. This workshop is a wonderful step in the right direction!

Participants will enjoy a friendly atmosphere at Safety Town, located in the west end of the Summer Grove Baptist Church parking lot, where they’ll learn valuable skills that can help keep them safe. The first workshop is set for Saturday, and don’t worry if you can’t make it; another session is already scheduled for November 23!

Weather Update for the Big Day!

Also, a quick weather update for the weekend: Expect a cloudy Saturday with possible rain showers. The high will be around 81°F, with light easterly winds. So, if you plan to attend, you might want to carry an umbrella just in case that 60% chance of rain sneaks up on us!

More Local News from Shreveport

In other news, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has recently identified a second victim involved in a tragic traffic accident on U.S. Highway 71 that occurred on September 27. Our community sends thoughts and prayers to the families affected during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is Growing!

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy has just celebrated the graduation of seven new cadets, who are ready to jump into the action and help combat the ongoing national shortage of law enforcement. The addition of these fresh faces brings hope and much-needed support to our local policing efforts.

Crime Alerts

On a different note, police are currently searching for two Shreveport women who are wanted in connection with a robbery that took place last week. If you have any information regarding this case, authorities encourage you to reach out. Remember, it takes the whole community to help keep each other safe!

Changes Ahead for Louisiana Residents

In Baton Rouge, the Louisiana House of Representatives’ Ways and Means Committee is taking steps towards tax reform. They began hearings on several bills and have already voted to advance a number of them, which could bring about significant changes to our tax system in the future.

Also on the legislative front, a new state law that aims to limit the potency of THC gummies sold throughout Louisiana is causing a stir. Many stakeholders are voicing opposition as the January 1 implementation date draws near.

What’s Happening Next Door?

Just a hop over to Benton, the Bossier Parish Police Jury has recently accepted bids from contractors to improve three local water and sewerage systems. This is essential work to ensure our communities have the infrastructure they need to thrive.

The Heart of Shreveport Beats Strong

As our community continues to evolve with various workshops, crime prevention initiatives, and legislative changes, it’s clear that everyone’s involvement is crucial. So mark your calendars and prepare for a weekend filled with learning, rain, and community spirit! Stay safe, Shreveport!
