School Performance Scores Reveal Academic Progress in Caddo and Bossier Parishes

School Performance Scores Announced in Caddo and Bossier Parishes

Caddo Parish Shows Improvement

In Shreveport, Louisiana, Caddo Parish schools have received notable performance scores, as announced by Superintendent Keith Burton during a news conference on Wednesday. The Louisiana Department of Education revealed school performance scores, providing a clear view of the academic achievements within the district. Since 1999, these scores have been compiled based on student achievement data.

Caddo Parish stood out with eight schools earning an ‘A’ rating. However, it also had six schools with an ‘F’ rating. The district as a whole achieved a ‘B’ performance, marking the highest score Caddo has received under the state’s accountability system. Superintendent Burton praised the hard work of the schools, emphasizing that the collective efforts led to a positive outcome. “The progress we celebrate today reaffirms that when we prioritize high expectations and meaningful support, our students and educators rise to the occasion,” he stated.

The performance data indicated that thirty-six Caddo Parish schools improved their scores, while nine schools advanced by a letter grade. Noteworthy among them, Caddo Middle Magnet was identified as the best middle school in Louisiana. Additionally, Eden Gardens Fundamental Elementary and South Highlands Elementary Magnet were recognized as two of the top 10 elementary schools in the state. Caddo Parish Magnet High School also garnered attention, being celebrated as the top 9-12 high school in Louisiana.

Bossier Parish Maintains Solid Performance

In neighboring Bossier Parish, schools also demonstrated significant progress as reported by Superintendent Jason Rowland. Unlike its counterpart, no Bossier schools received failing grades. Bossier Parish maintained a ‘B’ performance score for the district. Five schools even saw their performance scores increase by a letter grade.

The district’s achievements are further characterized by a rising number of students obtaining advanced credentials and college credits prior to graduating high school. The percentage of students earning these qualifications has risen dramatically from 13.9% in 2019 to 26.9% in 2023. Kingston Elementary’s ranking improved as well, landing in the 29th position among state schools.

Rowland expressed pride in the advancement, saying, “These are significant increases that are very difficult to attain, and we are elated to see this level of progress.” He emphasized the district’s commitment to providing outstanding educational opportunities and the recognition that comes with achieving these goals.

Continued Focus on Quality Education

As both parishes reflect on their educational achievements, the focus remains on ensuring quality education for every student. Superintendent Burton highlighted the importance of building on current momentum, stating, “Together we will continue to build on this momentum and ensure that every child in Caddo Parish has access to high-quality education they deserve.”

With the latest performance scores, educators and stakeholders in both Caddo and Bossier Parishes are poised to continue their efforts to improve educational outcomes. The recognition of exemplary schools and enhanced performance metrics serves as a testament to the hard work of students, staff, and the communities involved. The districts are committed to fostering environments that promote educational excellence and prepare students for their future endeavors.
