With possible tornadoes flinging about and a whole lot of wind blowing in all directions, it was a wild ride for locals.

The Tornado Report

Spotting a tornado isn’t something you usually anticipate on a spring evening, but at around 6:50 p.m., a suspected tornado touched down approximately four miles west of Bradley, Arkansas. Arkansas Highway 160 near Gin City found itself blocked by downed power lines and poles, all thanks to that fierce twister. Just moments before, at 6:47 p.m., an observant individual captured some impressive video by the Arkansas 160 bridge east of Doddridge. If that wasn’t enough, eyewitness reports began trickling in, confirming the tornado’s presence near the Miller County-Lafayette County border.

Widespread Damage, Thankfully No Injuries

As nerves were on edge, the community held a collective breath, hoping for the best. Fortunately, there were no injuries to report from this stormy ordeal. However, an EF1 tornado did wreak some havoc in a north Shreveport neighborhood, bringing down trees and causing a fair bit of property damage. Another EF1 tornado made its presence known just east of the Texas-Louisiana state line in Caddo Parish, leaving a trail of wind damage in its wake. The winds were powerful, landing between 86-110 mph, causing homeowners to assess the aftermath.

Alongside tornado threats, the skies opened up and poured down rain like a giant bucket tipped over! Shreveport recorded a hefty 1.66 inches of rainfall just on this day alone. With the streets being as soaked as a sponge, low-lying areas faced flash flooding, which caught many motorists off-guard. In less than an hour, fire crews found themselves responding to a staggering 14 storm-related incidents, particularly along the flooded roads of Interstate 20 near the Louisiana State Fairgrounds.

Power Outages and Restoration Efforts

SWEPCO reported that around 2,400 customers in Caddo Parish were left in the dark, with additional outages in Bossier (1,200) and Natchitoches (1,100). As morning dawned on April 3, crews were back at it, working furiously to restore power against the backdrop of high winds. While extensive damage was observed throughout, hope loomed large that about 95% of customers could be brought back online by 10 p.m. that same evening.
