Shreveport Celebrates Young Innovators in 40 Under Forty Recognition

The vibrant city of Shreveport is buzzing with excitement as the Greater Shreveport Chamber’s Young Professional Initiative gears up for its much-anticipated 40 Under Forty Gala this December. For 17 years, this program has honored a select group of young professionals who are not only excelling in their careers but are also making significant contributions to their communities. This year, the spotlight shines on 40 exceptional honorees, each carrying the torch of innovation, service, and leadership.

A Tradition of Excellence

Over the years, the initiative has honored more than 500 individuals, many of whom have gone on to take pivotal roles in business, politics, and public service within Shreveport. Dr. Timothy Magner, from the Chamber, expressed his enthusiasm saying, “The 2024 class of leaders and professionals that have been chosen as honorees are truly exceptional.” He looks forward to celebrating their achievements at the upcoming gala on December 6.

The Tough Decision for Young Professional of the Year

Among the notable features of the gala is the selection of Young Professional of the Year, an honor that truly captures the essence of the 40 Under Forty program. This year’s judging panel faced tough competition, as each nominee showcased unique skills and remarkable community engagement, echoing values of collaboration and service. Victor Thomas, this year’s chairman, noted, “By fostering collaboration, we can make a greater impact together than we ever could alone.”

Meet the Honorees

The nominees this year represent a dynamic mix of professions, including first responders, lawyers, teachers, and business leaders. These individuals are change-makers and trailblazers ready to take on future challenges and make a substantial impact in Shreveport and beyond.

Take, for instance, Dr. Madeline Barclay, the assistant dean of student affairs at LSU Health Shreveport. She founded a summer program that has educated over 150 local high school students about health care professions. Then there’s Faron Blaney, who broke glass ceilings as the first African American woman to establish a drug-testing facility in Northwest Louisiana, paving the way for other women in male-dominated industries.

Hannah Bourque embodies community spirit as the senior vice president at Bonvenu Bank and serves on several boards to uplift local charities, while Kasey Brown dedicates his expertise to Hancock Whitney Bank and actively supports his church community.

Innovating Healthcare and Community Engagement

Turning to healthcare, Victoria Charles, co-founder of Victory Heartsaver Academy, provides critical training in emergency medical response to help the community be better prepared. Meanwhile, Megan Flavin, an assistant professor of physical therapy, focuses on educating future health professionals while managing chronic pain through innovative research in her field.

Financial Savvy and Artistic Flair

Matthew Dixon serves on the Shreveport Police Department, specializing in mental health crisis intervention, while others like Michelle Lindholm have chosen paths in education, shaping the next generation as a teacher at the Caddo Career & Technology Center.

Garrett Johnson takes his community involvement to the next level, focusing on nonprofit administration, all while continuing to bond with his growing family.

Save the Date: A Night of Celebration

Have you chosen your pick for the Young Professional of the Year? Mark your calendar for December 6 and join the celebration of these fantastic young leaders who are shaping Shreveport’s future one achievement at a time. As Dr. Magner emphasized, “We enjoy recognizing the energy that these individuals bring to our community today.” Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of a night that celebrates accomplishments, community engagement, and the promise of ongoing influence from these dedicated professionals.
