Shreveport Native Enters Beauty Industry with New Nail Company

In the vibrant city of Shreveport, the beauty industry has welcomed a new player as local entrepreneur Monyetta Shaw-Carter launches her nail company, Keep it Classy Nails.

A Journey from Humble Beginnings

Carter’s journey into entrepreneurship is as inspiring as it is multifaceted. Reflecting on her upbringing, she shared, “I had the best upbringing ever. I grew up in a close-knit family with my two older brothers, and was very active in church and my school activities.” She excelled in high school, taking on roles such as the leading lady of the dance line and class president.

Building a Career

Before stepping into the beauty realm, Carter made a name for herself as a radio host for a Shreveport hip-hop and R&B station. Over the years, she established her own company, the Evan Grace Group, and opened a boutique called Emerlyn & Ester Boutique in Atlanta, Georgia. With the arrival of her children, she transitioned into writing, authoring several books including those inspired by her experiences as a mother.

Shifting to Beauty

“My passion for nails was the next step,” Carter explained, justifying her new venture with the desire to create luxurious press-on nails that resonate with her brand values of elegance and class.

Reality TV and Influence

While navigating her businesses, Carter gained fame as a reality TV star, appearing on shows like “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and “Atlanta Exes.” Her experiences on these platforms enabled her to connect with fans and share vital life lessons, particularly around co-parenting. “People tell me that seeing my journey has inspired them to be better co-parents. It’s all about positivity,” she said.

Pride in Her Roots

Carter is vocal about her pride in her Louisiana heritage. She is especially excited about the return of the entertainment industry to Shreveport with developments like G-Unit Studios, which she believes will create job opportunities and uplift the community. “The music and entertainment industry had a significant impact on me. It’s back, and it’s bringing life to the city, which is wonderful,” she commented.

Celebrating Black Business Month

With August being National Black Business Month, Carter’s launch of Keep it Classy Nails stands as a testament to growth and entrepreneurial spirit within the community. As she embarks on this new chapter, she emphasizes the importance of inspiring the next generation.
