Exciting Times in Shreveport-Bossier City: Local Athletes Make It Official on NCAA Signing Day!

February 5, 2025, was a big day for high school athletes across the country, and our very own Shreveport-Bossier City wasn’t left out! Excitement buzzed in the air as nearly 60 local athletes put pen to paper, signing their NCAA Letters of Intent. It’s a day that marks not just an end, but a beginning as these talented young individuals gear up to pursue their dreams at the collegiate level!

Three Major Signing Ceremonies Light Up the Area

In Shreveport, Woodlawn Leadership Academy hosted a vibrant signing ceremony where families, friends, and coaches gathered to celebrate these promising athletes. Airline High School in Bossier City also held its own event, creating a buzz of pride and anticipation among the community. Not to be outdone, Calvary Baptist Academy took part in the festivities in Shreveport as well. It was truly inspiring to see so many talented athletes from at least 15 different high schools in the region coming together to commemorate their hard work and dedication!

A Focus on Football, But Not Just Football!

The spotlight was primarily on football, where athletes signed with colleges mostly at the Division II and Division III levels. Among them was Devon “DD” Oliver, a standout defensive lineman who made the impressive choice to sign with the prestigious Yale University. Oliver, with an enviable 4.0 GPA, turned down offers from a whopping 15 other schools, including notable programs like Missouri, Vanderbilt, and Houston. He made history as the first defensive tackle coached by Parkway’s Coy Brotherton to secure a spot at an Ivy League school. What a remarkable achievement!

Other football signees included Ben Taylor and Ben Jump, both heading to Northwestern, and Jarvis Davis Jr., who will play for Alabama A&M. We can’t forget Zane Maxwell, off to Grinnell College, and Josh Allen, who is set to join Mount St. Joseph’s. Several athletes found their new homes at Centenary College, with names like Ayden Baker, D’Colby Chambers, Cole Austin, and Tyler Davidson taking the stage. And let’s not overlook Darrell Cottonham, who will continue his journey at Louisiana Christian University, Abram Wardell at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and Titus Stringer heading to Milsaps College. Dylan Wilson is also slated to join Texas Southern, rounding out a truly impressive lineup!

Cheering on New Beginnings

And it’s not just football taking the limelight! The thrill of competition extends into other sports too. Cheerleaders Paige Ware, Colie McCaa, and Addyson White added their names to the list of proud signees, with Ware making waves as she signed with the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) for cheerleading. It’s clear that the talent in this community is diverse and all-encompassing. The passion these young athletes demonstrate is both refreshing and inspiring!

A Day to Remember

These ceremonies were not merely events for signing papers; they were celebrations of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of athletic dreams. Families beaming with pride and friends cheering loudly added to the electric atmosphere, reminding everyone of the communal support surrounding these young athletes. As they prepare for their next step in collegiate sports, one thing is abundantly clear: the Shreveport-Bossier City area is a hotbed of talent, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these dedicated individuals!

With such determination and skill, these athletes are sure to leave their mark at their respective colleges and beyond. Here’s to new beginnings and to the journey of chasing dreams. Go, team!
