Shreveport Police Take Action Against Child Neglect and Abuse
In a troubling turn of events, the city of Shreveport has recently seen two significant arrests related to child neglect and abuse cases. These incidents have shed light on the serious responsibility that adults hold when it comes to the safety and well-being of children.
First Case: A Disturbing Abandonment
The first arrest involved a 10-year-old boy whose mother, Nicole Frederick, left him home alone one evening. On March 26, Frederick told her son she was heading out to run some errands. However, she didn’t come back. By midnight, when the clock struck twelve and his mother still hadn’t returned, the scared little boy took matters into his own hands and called the police.
When officers arrived on the scene, they attempted to reach Frederick using the contact information that she provided to her son, but unfortunately, they found no success. As the investigation unfolded, it became evident that the young boy had not been enrolled in any school. This revelation raised a lot of questions about the living situation and the care provided.
The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) was immediately notified and responded promptly to the home. After some time, police managed to locate Frederick, resulting in her arrest on charges of neglect of family.
Second Case: A Foster Care Nightmare
According to the allegations, the young boy was forced to sleep on a dog mat or a yoga mat, an uncomfortable and inadequate sleeping arrangement for a child his age. To make matters worse, he was reportedly denied bathroom access and was made to rely on a mop bucket placed outside for his needs. These distressing claims prompted the hospital to admit him for safety reasons, highlighting the severity of the situation.
In light of these allegations, the DCFS took immediate action and removed three other foster children from Pittman’s home as a precautionary measure. All four children were subjected to forensic interviews, and the findings corroborated the young boy’s disturbing claims of abuse, poor sleeping conditions, and lack of access to basic hygiene.
Pittman, aged 53, was arrested on March 27 and now faces serious charges of cruelty to a juvenile.
Protecting Children: A Community Concern
The Shreveport Police Department has been vocal about their commitment to protecting children in the community. They are taking a stand against these awful crimes and ensuring that responsible parties are held accountable for their actions. With these two cases, the authorities want to remind everyone that child safety should always come first, and that the wellbeing of the youngest members of society is everyone’s responsibility.
As these investigations continue to unfold, there is a collective hope that the children involved in these cases receive the support and care they desperately need moving forward. After all, every child deserves to grow up in a safe and loving environment.
