Sponsor Our ArticlesThe excitement is building in Shreveport as the countdown to the much-anticipated Christmas in the Sky event kicks off this December! Mark your calendars for December 14, because this year’s theme is “It’s Vegas Baby!” and it promises to be a dazzling night filled with glitz, glamour, and a whole lot of fun.
The invitations are officially in the mail! Volunteers have rolled up their sleeves, stuffing, sorting, and bagging over 1,200 invitations that went out on November 1. Yes, it takes an army of about 25 dedicated volunteers to get the Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s $350-a-person gala invitations ready for mailing. These fantastic people helped deliver stacks of invitations to the main U.S. Post Office. If you haven’t received yours yet, keep an eye on your mailbox!
And while we’re on the topic of sneak peeks, the auction book is also in the final stages—currently being printed after countless hours of meticulous proofreading. However, just when they thought it was good to go, Sky Director Pam Atchison had a minor panic. In an oh-so-classic “Stop the Presses!” moment, she discovered a name was misspelled in the auction book. It seems that long-time donor Jeffrey Kallenberg‘s name was mistakenly listed as “Jeffery” in not one but eight places!
Can you imagine? All that hard work and attention to detail, and a little thing like spelling could throw a monkey wrench in things! Thankfully, corrections were made swiftly, and the book is now on its way to Paragon Press!
One of the most exciting parts of Christmas in the Sky is the fabulous auction items up for grabs. Here’s a taste of what attendees can expect:
And let’s not forget the awesome paddle raffles! You can purchase a $200 Golden Paddle for a chance to win auction credit or a $100 Silver Paddle for Silent Auction shopping sprees. Just make sure you’re present to win—talk about an exciting evening!
Christmas in the Sky is much more than just a fundraiser; it’s an experience. Held at Louisiana Downs from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., attendees can expect fully stocked hot and cold buffets created under the guidance of Chef Ryan Gillespie. And let’s not forget the premium libation bars and the famous ice sculpture martini bars! With over 100 entertainers and costume characters roaming around, it’s going to be a night to remember.
“Proceeds from Sky benefit all people of Northwest Louisiana,” shares Atchison. “We’re committed to providing free community arts programs and supporting creative access for everyone!”
So, what should you wear to an event as dazzling as this? Think va-va-voom or black-tie opulence—with all the sparkle and shine you can muster!
Whether you’re attending to mingle, bid on incredible auction items, or simply enjoy a fabulous night out, Christmas in the Sky is the social event of the season in Shreveport. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
