Thief Steals AC Unit from Shreveport Church
Shocking Theft at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church
In a surprising turn of events, a local church in Shreveport, Louisiana became the victim of a brazen theft when a thief made off with a significant piece of equipment: the church’s air conditioning unit. This incident has left the community in disbelief, highlighting a troubling trend of thefts in the area.
Details of the Theft
The air conditioning unit, which weighed a hefty 5 tons, was located on the side of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. According to Clary Nash, the community coordinator for the church, the thief’s operation was shockingly quick. “He comes up there, sets the bag on top of the air conditioner compressor, walks around, turns the power off, cuts the wires, disconnects the pipe, puts it on a dolly, and walks off. Under a minute,” Nash explained.
Security Footage Captures the Crime
The entire incident was captured on a nearby security camera, revealing just how easily the thief managed to carry out the crime. The church is currently in the process of replacing the stolen unit, having already obtained a bid for a new one. However, the burden of the insurance deductible adds another layer of concern for the congregation.
Community Response
Nash expressed her worries about the broader implications of such thefts. “I’m just worried about other people. They should understand that this is going on throughout the city, and I just want people to be aware,” she said. The theft has sparked discussions within the community about securing properties better to prevent similar future incidents.
Recurring Problem in Shreveport
The theft of the AC unit is not an isolated case. Reports of similar incidents have surfaced frequently, with social media users discussing a recent theft attempt in the Highlands and Cedar Grove neighborhoods. With such alarming frequency, community members are prompted to take extra precautions to safeguard their property.
Next Steps for Sacred Heart Church
As the church family of Sacred Heart looks to replace the stolen unit, they remain hopeful that with community awareness and vigilance, they can deter future thefts and continue their mission in Shreveport.
