Shreveport City Bond Proposals: A Comprehensive Look

Shreveport City Bond Proposals: A Comprehensive Look

SHREVEPORT – Voters in Shreveport will soon get an opportunity to decide on three bond proposals totaling $256.3 million. These funds are anticipated to cover a range of capital improvements across the city. In preparation, Mayor Tom Arceneaux is hosting a series of public forums to acquaint citizens with the details of these proposals.

Why the Bonds are Vital?

Mayor Arceneaux is urging the citizenry to attend these presentations, ask questions, and most importantly, vote. The Powerpoint presentations to be displayed at these meetings are split into two sections: one providing details on city-wide benefit projects and the other delving into specific projects in each of the Shreveport City Council districts.

A Peek into the Proposed Projects

The proposed citywide projects include a $20 million initiative for improvements at the Amiss Water Treatment Station and a $4 million renovation plan for the police and fire training academy. The remaining funds are fairly distributed among all council districts, thanks to a citizens committee that compiled the list of potential projects for consideration in the bond issue.

The Unique Case of Council District E

Mayor Arceneaux has stated that while the distribution of funds across council districts appears equal, the number and types of projects within the districts vary. Particularly, Council District E is set to undertake a single but significant project, a $25 million sewer upgrade.

Public Meetings Scheduled

Free public meetings are scheduled to occur across various locations. In addition to Mayor Arceneaux and the city department heads, city council members are also expected to be present at the meetings in their respective districts. Residents are welcome to attend any of the meetings, regardless of their council district affiliation.

Meeting Dates and Locations

The list of times and locations for the meetings are as follows:

  • 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3: A.B. Palmer Community Center in District E
  • Noon Thursday, April 4: Airport Park Recreation Center in District F
  • 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4: David Raines Recreation Center in District A
  • …and so on…

The Road Ahead

Focusing on the bond issues will be the primary task for Mayor Arceneaux in April. The early response, says the mayor, has been optimistic. It is anticipated that these proposals, bringing about key improvements, will receive strong support from the voters. This crucial step is key in ensuring ongoing progress and growth for Shreveport.
