Shreveport’s Nathan Treme: A Rising Star in Tabletop Gaming and Music

Discovering Shreveport’s Creative Gem: Nathan Treme

Shreveport, Louisiana, is buzzing with creativity, and at the heart of this artistic movement is a homegrown talent by the name of Nathan Treme. Since 2018, Treme has been making waves in the tabletop game scene with his company, Highland Paranormal Society. From crafting imaginative games to spinning unique musical tunes, Nathan’s passion is palpable and infectious.

A Deep Dive into Game Development

Nathan’s journey began when he fell in love with Dungeons and Dragons. Like many enthusiasts, he started off playing the iconic roleplaying game but soon sought something a little different. “I got into that, and kinda like everything I get into, I do kinda a deep dive and find what the underground version of that is being made,” he explains. His quest led him to discover a vibrant subculture where people were inventing their own versions of Dungeons and Dragons, and before long, he was creating games of his own.

In just a few short years, Nathan’s creations have garnered attention and popularity. He launched the Tunnel Goons, his flagship game, as well as several others like In the Light of a Ghost Star and Dogtooth Valley. These games are easy to learn, which makes them perfect for newcomers, and some can even be printed right from home!

Catering to All Types of Players

“Sometimes I call my games, and say they are like DnD if you are not good at math,” he says, and it’s clear he’s not only making games but also creating a community where everyone can join in on the fun, regardless of their gaming experience. Nathan has even held game jam events, where participants design new games inspired by Tunnel Goons—a process that has led to over 150 different games so far. This sense of camaraderie is something Nathan treasures dearly.

Social Engagement Through Patreon

On top of game development, Nathan found a way to connect with his fans through Patreon. With over 640 members subscribed, his different tiers—ranging from $2 to $10—allow fans to gain access to exclusive games and other creative content. “Those who are Paranormal Entities even get random miniature games mailed out to them sometimes,” he mentions cheerily. It’s a delightful way of fostering community and connection in the digital age.

Additionally, Nathan has partnered with outside publishers, such as Games Omnivorous, to release a collection of his work known as The Haunted Almanac. “They did such a good job making all my weird little-sized games,” he shares, noting that this unique book is nearing its third printing, a true testament to its popularity.

More Than Just Gaming

But Nathan Treme isn’t just stopping at games. He is also a multifaceted artist and musician. His passion for music runs deep, as he dabbles in various genres, primarily focusing on Electronica and Synthwave. He has performed at numerous local events, showcasing his talent in bands like Blood Punch and Mutant Dad. “Once I kinda get the rhythm going, sometimes it’s just about playing around with synthesizers,” says Nathan, revealing how spontaneity plays a vital role in his creative process.

As a rapper and a performer eager to experiment, Nathan emphasizes the magic of mixing sounds and embracing the unpredictable nature of music production. He expresses joy in creating live performances that evolve in real-time, stating, “I’m kind of making it up as I go.” It’s this authenticity and willingness to innovate that make his work resonate with fans.

Championing Local Creativity

With collaborations budding through platforms like Discord, Nathan highlights the excitement in the local game design scene, adding, “There are cool people designing games in the area.” He invites everyone interested in tabletop games to embrace their inner creator, saying, “Kinda the cool thing about tabletop roleplay games is even if you are playing it, you are in some way a game designer already.”

In the vibrant city of Shreveport, Nathan Treme stands as a beacon of creativity, bridging the worlds of gaming and music. As he continues to innovate and inspire, there’s no doubt that he’s making a noteworthy imprint on the local arts scene.
