Shreveport Welcomes New Director of Existing Industry

Shreveport, La. – Big changes are happening in North Louisiana as the North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP) proudly introduces its new Director of Existing Industry, Dean Baugh. Dean’s appointment is well-timed as the region focuses on strengthening its current industrial base and supporting local businesses. With his extensive experience in economic development and workforce training, he’s ready to tackle the various challenges businesses face today.

Meet Dean Baugh

Before stepping into this new role, Dean has had a vibrant career in economic development. He most recently served as the Director of Business Development at Louisiana Economic Development, where he managed initiatives across 27 parishes. His efforts included vital facets such as business retention and expansion, making him a key player in keeping businesses thriving in the area.

Dean has also made notable contributions at Graphic Packaging International and Louisiana Delta Community College. His dual experience in both workforce training and economic growth means he has a robust understanding of how to bridge gaps between the needs of current industries and the skills available in the regional workforce.

Dean’s Vision for NLEP

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new position, Dean said, “I am excited and thankful to join the NLEP team, knowing that I will be able to assist in creating unique solutions to the challenging problems that existing businesses within northwest Louisiana are facing.” He is optimistic about the role he will play in providing essential tools to help companies not only remain but also grow in the 11-parish region.

Leadership Support

The excitement at NLEP doesn’t just stop with Dean. Justyn Dixon, the President and CEO of NLEP, shared his thoughts about Dean’s arrival: “Dean’s extensive background and proven track record in economic development make him an invaluable addition to our team. The existing companies we work with are critical for the health of our regional economy. Dean’s leadership will greatly enhance our efforts to support these companies in their continued growth.”

Angie White, NLEP’s COO, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Dean and I have worked together for many years across partner organizations, and I am thrilled to have him become part of the NLEP team. We will make great strides in ramping up support of our economic driver companies.” Together, they aim to tackle the issues firms face and aid them in fulfilling their business objectives.

A Bright Educational Background

Dean’s educational journey has helped shape him into the accomplished professional he is today. He holds a bachelor’s degree in general studies with a focus on Political Science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Alongside this, he has pursued various professional development courses centered around economic development and community leadership, ensuring he stays sharp and well-informed about current trends.

His dedication is further exemplified by his pursuit of certifications like Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) and Professional Community and Economic Developer (PCED), showcasing his commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth.

The Future Looks Promising

The creation of Dean’s position is part of a larger initiative aimed at bolstering the region’s existing industries. This step is significantly supported by a grant from the Community Foundation of North Louisiana, something for which NLEP’s leadership is incredibly grateful.

As NLEP continues to focus on being a catalytic force in North Louisiana’s economic landscape, Dean’s role as Director of Existing Industry is expected to play a crucial part. With the potential for creating job opportunities and enhancing the skill sets of the workforce, the region is looking at a promising future ahead.
