Sponsor Our ArticlesSHREVEPORT, La. — The local fire department has received a significant financial boost in recent days, with Willis Knighton Health granting a 54,000 donation. The funds are earmarked for the purchase of state-of-the-art gear and tools for the Shreveport Fire Department’s (SFD) new fleet of six Dodge Ram trucks.
On June 11th, Willis Knighton Health President and CEO Jaf Fielder ceremoniously handed over the check to SFD’s Chief, Clarence Reese. The event took place at the SFD Station No. 8 on Greenwood Road, marking an important day for the Shreveport’s emergency response crew. The donation comes as a part of Willis Knighton Health’s commitment to public safety, healthcare and quality of life in the community.
The fire department recently acquired six new crew cab trucks to replace an aging fleet that previously served the fire investigators. The $54,000 donation will be used to equip these new vehicles with necessary tools before they can officially join the force.
The SFD emphasized that the funds will allow the purchase of specific equipment required for “render-safe” procedures of hazardous devices found within the response area. Additionally, the new trucks will be customized to store and transport personal protective equipment, amplifying the safety of both the fire crew and the public.
In a statement, the fire department expressed its gratitude and acknowledgment of the donation, “The Shreveport Fire Department is thankful to the Willis Knighton Health System for their continued support as we go each day to serve the citizens of Shreveport.”
Furthermore, addressing the critical need for appropriate equipment, Fielder stated, “A lot of times, the men and women firefighters don’t know exactly what situations that they’re being dispatched into. We want to make sure that they’re outfitted for any type of situation so that they can appropriately respond, keep themselves safe, and keep our community safe.”
