Sponsor Our ArticlesOn March 15, 2025, a major fire broke out at Pratt Industries in Shreveport, Louisiana, prompting an urgent response from employees and local firefighters. The blaze, fueled by thousands of tons of paper, presented significant challenges to over 100 firefighters from various agencies. Fortunately, injuries were limited to a firefighter with non-life-threatening injuries, and the fire was eventually contained. Community resilience shined through as the response showcased teamwork and collaboration, even as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues. Residents remain vigilant as fire crews monitor the scene.
Shreveport, Louisiana was shaken by a major fire alarm on March 15, 2025, when flames erupted at Pratt Industries around 4:25 p.m. Employees, quick on their feet, jumped into action by initiating an emergency shut-off of systems, hoping to contain the blaze before firefighters could arrive. Talk about teamwork!
As the situation unfolded, workers became the first line of defense. They grabbed hoses from the facility’s water towers and used them to douse the flames, putting their own safety on the line. When the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) got the call about the fire just before 2:30 p.m., units were dispatched without delay. However, upon arrival, firefighters encountered a serious challenge: multiple paper bales engulfed in flames and heavy winds that were making it difficult to tame the blaze.
What ensued was nothing short of a firefighting spectacle, with over 100 firefighters from various agencies, including the Caddo Fire Districts and Bossier City Fire Department, racing to the scene. The incident was classified as a three-alarm fire, signaling just how intense things had become. Firefighters faced an uphill battle as they fought flames fueled by roughly 9,500 tons of baled paper products spread out over a 2.5-acre area.
As the brave firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control, one unfortunate incident occurred: a firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and had to be transported to a local hospital. Meanwhile, a nearby building experienced heat damage but luckily was not a total loss. The effort to subdue the fire was proving to be a marathon rather than a sprint.
Fast forward to 6:24 p.m., and firefighters announced that they had contained the fire in the recycled paper area—an essential win amidst the chaos. However, the battle was far from over. Crews had to stay vigilant and continue spraying the smoldering materials throughout the night as the fire continued to smolder. The Port of Caddo-Bossier issued a statement applauding the collaborative efforts of all agencies involved, emphasizing the remarkable teamwork displayed during this emergency.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials have warned that the effort to fully extinguish the flames could take up to 48 hours. As morning broke on March 16th, approximately 15 units were still on-site, monitoring the area to ensure complete control of the smoldering embers and prevent any potential flare-ups.
The incident has undoubtedly sparked a wave of concern among locals, but the resilience and prompt action of the employees and first responders have showcased the spirit of the Shreveport community. As everyone awaits the results of the investigation, they can take comfort in knowing that the men and women in uniform are working tirelessly to keep the city safe.
Keep your spirits high and stay tuned for further updates as this situation continues to develop. Let’s hope for a speedy resolution and recovery for Pratt Industries!
