Strong winds made it harder to control the blaze, which was particularly concerning with an estimated 2.5 acres of compacted paper bales, weighing in at about 9,500 tons, up in flames. The fire was so expansive that over 100 firefighters, including off-duty personnel, were mobilized in a joint effort to extinguish the dangerous inferno.

As fire crews worked furiously to contain the flames, they also began investigating the cause of the fire. Efforts to obtain surveillance footage from the facility were underway, but as of the latest updates, the cause remained a mystery. Meanwhile, employees at Pratt Industries attempted to mitigate the situation using hoses from nearby water towers before the fire department arrived on the scene.

Keeping an Eye on the Situation

Fire Chief Clarence Reese and his team made strategic decisions as they continued to fight the fire. Given the intensity and unpredictability of the flames, there was discussion about possibly allowing the fire to burn itself out, while maintaining oversight for at least 48 hours. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries connected to the incident, which was a relief for both employees and the community.

Mutual aid was called in from neighboring fire districts, including Caddo Fire Districts 4, 5, and 6, as well as the Bossier City Fire Department.
