Shreveport Firefighters Tackle Bedroom Blaze in Queensborough

Shreveport, La. experienced a tense moment Sunday afternoon when a fire broke out in a modest home on Sumner Street. At around 2:38 p.m., the Shreveport Fire Department sprang into action after receiving a call from the resident who spotted the flames.

Fire Alarm Saves the Day

Fortunately, the house was equipped with a working smoke alarm, which played a crucial role in alerting the occupant to the danger. Thanks to this early warning system, the resident acted quickly to call for help, ensuring that firefighters were on the scene as soon as possible.

Arriving on Scene

Upon arrival, firefighters were greeted with a concerning sight: heavy smoke and flames pouring from the left side of the one-story wood-frame structure. Battalion 2 Chief Mike Cook later reported that the situation was quite serious. However, the firefighters were ready for action.

Overcoming Obstacles

The path was not entirely clear for our brave firefighters. They encountered burglar bars on the doors and windows, which proved to be an extra hurdle to overcome. But these dedicated men and women were not going to let a few bars stand in the way of their mission to save lives and property.

Aiming for Quick Containment

With the clock ticking, a total of eight fire units were dispatched, comprising 24 firefighters and additional support personnel from Signal 51. Their teamwork and professionalism led to a rapid response in which they managed to contain the fire to just the bedroom area. Remarkably, they accomplished this in just about 13 minutes.

Injuries and Aftermath

While the situation was undoubtedly alarming, the good news is that no firefighters were injured during the operation. However, one person was taken to a hospital for treatment. We can only hope for their swift recovery. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly a fire can change lives and stresses the need to take safety precautions seriously.
