Local high school athletes have made quite a splash, highlighting the immense talent we have in our area. And guess what? You get to have a say in who stands out as the Football Player of the Week!

The Nominees Are In!

Twelve athletes have been selected as nominees for the inaugural Shreveport Times Football Player of the Week 1 ballot for 2024. These players have turned heads with their skills on the field, and now it’s time for you to show your support. Fans can visit shreveporttimes.com to vote for their favorite player until Thursday evening. Let’s take a quick look at the standout nominees:

  • Jeremiah Epps, Airline
  • Malachi Zeigler, Benton
  • Jaxon Bentzler, Northwood
  • Kendrian Sims, Bossier
  • M’Kyle Armstrong, Woodlawn
  • Jomello McDonald, Red River
  • Taylor Weathersby, Haughton
  • Kenny Thomas, North DeSoto
  • Kaleb Williams, Parkway

What’s at Stake?

Now, you might be wondering, “What do they get if they win?” The lucky player who earns the title of Player of the Week will take home a stylish duffle bag and a meal card sponsored by our friendly neighborhood Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, and Cosse and Silmon Orthodontics. Not too shabby, right?

Continuing the Excitement

This selection process is not just a one-time event. Oh no! The Football High School Athlete of the Week recognition will run throughout the Louisiana football season, celebrating the youthful talent we have here. Coaches and school admins are encouraged to submit their nominees, so keep those submissions coming!

An Early Favorite

As we dive into the heart of the season, let’s not forget that just recently, Mateo Guerrero from Bossier was voted as the Preseason Fan’s Choice Football Player of the Year. What a title to carry! This showcases the competitive spirit and rising talent in our local football scene. Could one of our Week 1 nominees challenge him for top honors as the season progresses? We can’t wait to see how this unfolds!

Get Involved!

So, Shreveport, are you ready to cheer on your favorite players? Voting is open now until Thursday evening, so rally your support and cast your vote at shreveporttimes.com. Remember, your vote can make a difference in these young athletes’ lives!
