On December 27, Shreveport, Louisiana, experienced a heartbreaking tragedy as two young cousins, Jakeva and Tristavian Datcher, were shot and killed during two separate incidents. The first shooting, linked to a drug deal gone wrong, occurred at Cross Lake Apartments, while the second shooting took place at a party nearby. Law enforcement has made multiple arrests in connection with the first shooting, which marks a grim milestone in local violence rates. The community mourns the loss of these young lives and calls for action against gun violence.
In the quiet city of Shreveport, Louisiana, December 27 turned into a horror story when two shootings took place just an hour apart, claiming the lives of two young cousins. The events unfolded late at night, sending shockwaves through the community and sparking an urgent investigation by law enforcement.
Everything began at <10:24 PM> in the 5600 block of South Lakeshore Drive, where a narcotics transaction spiraled into tragedy at the Cross Lake Apartments. Victims Jakeva Datcher and Tristavian Datcher, both just 21 years old, were shot during this unfortunate meeting. Witnesses reported that a burnt orange car, possibly a Dodge Charger, played a role in the chaotic scene. Two men jumped out of the vehicle, opened fire, and promptly fled away into the night.
Jakeva Datcher was discovered in the back seat of an SUV parked on the 3000 block of Curtis Lane, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 10:36 PM. Tristavian Datcher, although rushed to Ochsner LSU Health, succumbed to his injuries shortly after, being declared dead at 11 PM. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office later confirmed that both men died from their gunshot wounds. This heartbreaking incident marked the 53rd and 54th homicides in Caddo Parish this year, and sadly, it is the 50th and 51st in Shreveport.
Just a short while later, at <11 PM>, the second shooting shattered the night. This time, it was at a party located in the 500 block of Robinson Place, where tensions escalated into an argument. During the chaos, unidentified suspects shot from approximately 50 yards away, striking an innocent woman in her upper right thigh. Thankfully, her injuries were not life-threatening, and she received immediate medical attention.
This second shooting involved a 7.62-caliber rifle or pistol, which only adds to the unsettling feeling echoing through the community. While the suspects involved in this incident remain unknown, detectives are hopeful that investigation efforts will lead to their identification.
Following the first shooting, homicide detectives worked diligently to track down the suspects. It wasn’t long before they located them at a residence on 2231 W. College St.. In a swift move, law enforcement made three arrests, charging the suspects with two counts of second-degree homicide. The suspects, described as males aged between 16 and 25 years old, were booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
Both shootings continue to be under investigation, and authorities are expected to release further updates as more information comes to light. In the meantime, the community is left to grapple with the loss of young lives, reminding everyone of the ongoing struggle against gun violence.
As Shreveport residents come together to mourn, it’s also a time for reflection and action. The tragic events are a stark reminder of the importance of unity in combating crime and ensuring safety in the neighborhoods we call home.
There is hope that justice will prevail for Jakeva and Tristavian Datcher, and that their untimely deaths lead to positive change in the community.
