Shreveport High School Fishing Tournament Brings Community Together to Support Local Charities

Shreveport High School Fishing Tournament Reels in Support for Local Charities

Shreveport, La. woke up to a stormy Saturday morning, but that didn’t stop dedicated anglers from casting their lines in the annual high school fishing tournament on the scenic Cross Lake. Despite the cloudy skies and the promise of rain, local students and their supporters gathered to make a splash for a good cause.

Fishing for Friends and Families

This year, the fishing tournament wasn’t just about sinking hooks into fish. It was all about swinging for the fences to help those in need. Two incredible local organizations benefited from the tournament proceeds: 5 Loaves & 2 Fish, which serves meals to families in crisis, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), dedicated to standing up for abused and neglected children.

The friendly competition saw eager high school students from various teams participating, all while raising funds for these two vital causes. Seeing youth come together for the community is an inspiring sight, showcasing the caring nature of Shreveport’s next generation.

Weather Report with a Silver Lining

The weather forecast hinted at thunderstorms in the morning, but just like the resilient spirit of the participants, the rain held off long enough for the tournament festivities to kick off. Organizers had a backup plan, just in case, but lucky for everyone, they were able to dodge the more severe weather. The sun peeked through the clouds, brightening spirits while temperatures climbed to a pleasant 67°F, perfect for a day out on the lake.

By late afternoon, though, the skies turned cloudy again and light rain was in the forecast, with a 50% chance of showers continuing into the night. But the weather didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the participants or their supportive fans, who were reminded that even when skies are gray, there’s always a reason to keep smiling.

Community Spirit at Its Best

As folks lined the shores, awaiting the weigh-in for the prized catches, the atmosphere was filled with laughter and camaraderie. Volunteers from both 5 Loaves & 2 Fish and CASA set up booths, sharing information about their missions and the critical support they provide to Shreveport residents. It was heartwarming to see community members come together not only for a love of fishing but for a shared goal of improving lives.

KTBS 3’s Patrick Dennis stopped by to highlight the wonderful work these organizations are doing. Just watching the volunteers and participants mingle revealed an important message: we can all do our part to make a difference, whether it’s through fishing or lending a helping hand.

The Catch of the Day

As the sun dipped below the horizon, participants brought their catches to be weighed. High hopes were high as families celebrated their young anglers’ efforts with cheers and applause. It was a day filled with friendly competition, community spirit, and a reminder of the impact of working together.

Looking Ahead

In conclusion, Saturday’s fishing tournament at Cross Lake turned into more than just a day of fishing – it became a powerful occasion for reflection on community involvement. While the clouds may have hung heavy over Shreveport, the smiles and laughter of the participants lit up the day, reminding us all that even in tough times, we can come together to support those in need.

As the community looks ahead, we can count on events like this to continue fostering positive change, reminding us that just like nature, the bond of a community can weather any storm. Let’s keep casting out our lines – both for fish and for hope!
