Shreveport, La. was the place to be this past Saturday, as the charming waters of Cross Lake became the backdrop for a buzzing high school fishing tournament. What made this event even more special? It wasn’t just about the big catches or the bragging rights – it was about giving back to the community.
The tournament was not only a test of angling skills, but it also fished up lots of support for two wonderful organizations making waves in Shreveport. First up, we have 5 Loaves & 2 Fish, a fantastic faith-based organization dedicated to feeding the local community. They truly believe in the power of generosity and have been working tirelessly to provide nourishing meals to those in need.
Right alongside them was CASA, which stands for “Court Appointed Special Advocates.” This dedicated organization is all about advocating for the most vulnerable members of our society – children who have faced abuse and neglect. Their mission is crystal clear: to build a statewide network of volunteers who can stand up and speak on behalf of these kids, making sure their needs are met and voices are heard.
On this sunny day, the smell of barbeque wafted through the air as families gathered by the lake. Fishermen and women (and just about anyone who enjoys the great outdoors) came out to spend some quality time, casting lines and sharing stories. The buzz of excitement was palpable, as competitors hustled to catch the biggest fish possible, while also remembering the key reason they were all there – to support local charities.
KTBS 3’s Patrick Dennis was on hand to soak up the atmosphere and highlight the incredible work done by these community organizations. “What a fantastic day! It’s wonderful to see young folks getting involved and learning that fishing can do more than just fill the cooler—it can also fill hearts with joy and compassion,” Patrick remarked.
As the tournament progressed, participants were drawn not only by the lure of fish but also by the chance to make a difference. Each fishing team had an opportunity to win prizes, but more importantly, they felt proud participating in an event that helped support their hometown.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the atmosphere transformed into one of celebration. Awards were handed out, not just for the largest fish caught, but for the best sportsmanship and teamwork. It was a heartening reminder that while the tournament was competitive, it was also about building friendships and lifting each other up.
In the end, whether a participant caught a fish or not, everyone walked away with a sense of accomplishment, knowing they had contributed to a greater cause. With the success of the tournament, it’s clear that Shreveport residents are more than just anglers; they are doers, caring for their community and one another.
As we wrap up this wonderful event, we can’t help but feel inspired. It’s always heartening to witness how community initiatives can reel in kindness, compassion, and support for those who need it most. So, here’s to more events like this one, where every cast line is a step toward a better tomorrow!
