With a stellar regular season record of 16-0, they are gearing up to compete for the championship this weekend near Dallas, Texas. This weekend marks a historic moment for the team, as it’s the first time they will contend for a championship title after an immaculate run throughout the regular season.
The 2024-25 edition of the Mudbugs has emerged as the No. 1 seed heading into the Varsity Bronze Division semifinal matchup. They are set to take on Northwest, a team with a respectable record of 9-7. The anticipation is palpable as players and fans alike get ready for what promises to be an exhilarating battle on the ice.
Mark your calendars! The championship game is scheduled for Sunday in Plano, Texas. This will be an exciting opportunity for the team to clinch their first postseason victory, as they have participated in the postseason twice before but have never managed to win a game.
Today’s roster features young talents from a mix of local high schools, including Captain Shreve, Airline, and Calvary. Notably, Captain Shreve senior Landon Kay has truly shined this season, leading the division in both goals with an impressive 30 and total points, reaching 42. The Shreveport team collectively scored the most goals in their division this season at 82, only allowing 24 to be scored against them, showcasing both their offensive prowess and impeccable defense.
On the other end of the ice, junior goaltender Aiden Kerr, from Marshall High, has been a wall for the Mudbugs. He dominated all divisions with an outstanding 1.5 goals-against average and an impressive .936 save percentage. His performance has undoubtedly been a vital factor in the team’s undefeated streak.
Moreover, the excitement doesn’t stop with the varsity team. The junior varsity squad is also making waves, clinching the No. 1 seed with a commendable 14-2 record. Under the guidance of Head Coach Patrick Stevens, players from various schools like Byrd, Benton, and Loyola have come together, contributing to the team’s remarkable success.
