Shreveport, Louisiana — On Monday afternoon, September 2, 2024, local residents witnessed a significant fire at an unoccupied home located in the 4000 block of Virginia Avenue. The fire was first reported at 2:31 p.m. when a nearby resident noticed flames and quickly contacted emergency services.
The Shreveport Fire Department’s Engine 8 responded promptly, arriving on the scene just four minutes after the call came in. Firefighters found flames engulfing multiple sides of the structure, putting their training to the test as they battled the blaze.
In total, eight units, comprising 24 firefighters and support staff, were deployed to the scene. Their collective efforts proved effective as they managed to bring the fire under control by 2:46 p.m. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery, as authorities have launched an investigation. A concerning detail emerged during the incident: there were no smoke detectors found inside the home, raising alarms about fire safety in abandoned properties.
