Additionally, Tike’s Treats and Eats, a new bakery and restaurant, is set to open, contributing to the local economy.

Shreveport Welcomes New Leadership and Exciting Initiatives

Shreveport is buzzing with excitement as the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce welcomes Tom Simms as the new chairman for 2025. With a solid 30 years of experience as a member of the chamber, Simms is eager to roll up his sleeves and dive into some ambitious projects that aim to uplift the community and boost local tourism.

Revitalizing the Historic Chamber Building

One of the key initiatives on the agenda is the ongoing rehabilitation of the chamber’s historic building located at 400 Edwards St.. This iconic structure, which has stood the test of time for over 103 years, was transferred to the chamber by the city of Shreveport in 2022. The chamber has committed to a significant renovation, having launched a $5 million capital campaign aimed at making necessary repairs and improvements. The building, previously the Shreve Memorial Library, will soon shine brightly as a symbol of the chamber’s mission.

Fostering Future Leaders Through Education

Recognizing the importance of education, another focus for 2025 will be on supporting high school students through internship opportunities in collaboration with the Caddo Parish school system. This initiative seeks to expose students to various career paths, ensuring that they have the skills and experience to thrive in today’s dynamic job market.

Support for Barksdale Air Force Base

In a time of uncertainty with mixed messages from Washington, the chamber continues to stand firmly behind Barksdale Air Force Base and its personnel. Supporting local military families is a priority, as they contribute significantly to the Shreveport community’s fabric.

A Boost for Local Tourism with “Destination 318”

But that’s not all. The Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau has also launched a new initiative called “Destination 318.” This exciting endeavor includes a $100,000 tourism challenge aimed at enhancing local tourism and driving economic growth. It’s a grant competition tailored for tourism-oriented businesses in Caddo and Bossier parishes. Existing businesses looking to expand are invited to apply!

The goal here is not just about infusing cash into the community but also addressing the unmet needs in tourism infrastructure. The initiative focuses on everything from equipment rental services to improving dining options near the convention center. Applications for this revitalizing program are open until February 28, 2025.

Big Prizes and Community Involvement

What’s at stake? The top prize for the Destination 318 competition is an impressive $50,000, plus additional awards and a People’s Choice Award funded by local programs. This competition seeks to inspire innovation and growth, ensuring that the local business community not only survives but thrives.

Introducing Tike’s Treats and Eats

Tike’s Treats and Eats, a delightful new bakery and restaurant set to open its doors on February 25, 2025, at 3030 Youree Drive. Owner Sopan Tike is excited to offer a range of mouthwatering baked goods, coffee drinks, and lunch options. This establishment aims to create a cozy and inviting space for customers to work or unwind, featuring visually appealing treats that are sure to stand out.

Look Ahead

As Shreveport looks to the future, these initiatives from the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and local businesses herald a period of growth and community engagement. With the new leadership at the helm and a commitment to both tourism and education, the stage is set for a vibrant year ahead. Let’s keep our eyes peeled as Shreveport steps confidently into this new chapter!
