News Summary

As Dr. Reddy’s facility in Shreveport prepares to close on March 14, 2025, the City has launched an online resource to assist affected employees. This initiative connects them with local job opportunities, fostering community support during this challenging transition. Local businesses are also encouraged to participate by posting job openings, enhancing the local job market and assisting those impacted by the closure.

Shreveport Launches New Online Resource for Dr. Reddy’s Employees Facing Closure

In the vibrant city of Shreveport, Louisiana, a significant change is on the horizon. The local facility of Dr. Reddy’s, a well-known player in the pharmaceutical industry, will be closing its doors on March 14, 2025. This news has understandably raised concerns among its employees, many of whom have devoted decades of their lives to the company.

Support for Affected Employees

To help ease the transition for those affected, the City of Shreveport has stepped in with a fantastic initiative. They recently launched an online resource tailored specifically for the employees facing the upcoming layoffs. This new platform has been set up by the city’s economic development department to connect these employees with local job opportunities and employers looking to expand their teams. No one should have to face unemployment alone, and this resource is a great first step towards finding a new position.

Employees can access this supportive platform at shreveportreddyjobs.com. It’s designed to be user-friendly and navigate, making it easy for individuals seeking work to find available resources right in their community. It’s also fully integrated with the city’s main website and the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, ensuring maximum visibility for everyone involved.

Local Employers Getting Involved

Local businesses that are willing to hire can also get involved. The city’s economic development director, Bill Sabo, is eager to hear from employers wanting to post job openings. This effort not only helps those facing job loss but also strengthens the local economy by connecting talent with businesses in need of staff. It’s a win-win situation that showcases the power of community support.

Details Behind the Closure

A total of 107 employees received notifications about the upcoming closure of the facility. The entire facility will close permanently, which follows Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories selling its subsidiary to Jaguar Labs Holdings, LLC. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the facility was deemed “non-strategic for the company”, with no future pipeline for products, indicating a major shift in their business model. Astonishingly, the file revealed no products or Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) were included with the sale.

Rumors also suggest that the new owner may be the Ten Oaks Group, a firm specializing in corporate divestitures. Should this be true, it might mean some opportunities could arise from the transition, but nothing concrete has emerged from ongoing attempts to contact the new owners regarding their plans for the facility and the employees.

A Bit of History

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories struck roots in Shreveport in 2008 when it acquired the Boots/BASF plant. At that time, the worth of the Shreveport facility was valued at a staggering $29.49 million. In the early stages of this transition, there were expectations regarding the future employment of around 150 employees who might be transferred to the new company. The Louisiana Workforce Commission also confirmed that Dr. Reddy’s had provided the necessary Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification information, a legal requirement in cases of mass layoffs.

Interestingly, the method of communication concerning the layoffs was conducted via email, a move that had employees scratching their heads, as it’s not the typical practice in such serious matters. Many current workers have been with the facility for over 40 remarkable years, which illustrates the strong bond individuals have formed with their jobs and colleagues.

Looking Ahead

As Shreveport faces this change, community leaders and organizations are eager to assist those affected by the closure of Dr. Reddy’s facility. With the new online resource in place and engagement from local employers, there’s hope for brighter futures and new opportunities for all impacted. It’s a reminder of resilience in the face of challenges and the unwavering support that comes from a close-knit community like Shreveport.

While the future may seem uncertain for those employees, one thing is for sure: the spirit of Shreveport is alive and well, and its people will come together to ensure that no one is left behind.
