Shreveport Kicks Off Awareness for Domestic Violence with Fun-Filled Kickball Tournament

Shreveport, Louisiana, was the place to be last Saturday as the sun shone brightly, and the community came together for a wonderful cause. With temperatures reaching a lovely 82°F and a light breeze in the air, families and friends flocked to Bill Cockrell Park for the third annual “Kick Against Domestic Violence” kickball tournament, organized by the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.

Uniting for a Cause

The aim of this spirited event was clear: to raise awareness about domestic violence while having a great time! The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office partnered with various local agencies, including the Shreveport Community Renewal Friendship Houses, Shreveport Police Department, Shreveport Fire Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office. Each agency sponsored children from their respective Friendship Houses, bringing smiles and a sense of community belonging to many.

Fun and Games Under the Sun

Starting from 10 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m., the day was filled with cheerful activities. Families enjoyed the sunshine while indulging in delicious food from several local vendors. Admission was free, making it an accessible event for everyone to join in on the fun. What better way to spread awareness than through laughter, competition, and a shared goal?

Five teams, each sporting vibrant purple jerseys, fought for glory on the kickball field. Here’s a snapshot of the teams that participated:

  • Shreveport Police Department – Team Name: Purple Peace Keepers
    Coaches: Chris Bordelon and Tiffany Oliver
    Friendship House: Cedar Grove
  • Shreveport Fire Department – Team Name: Purple Inferno
    Coaches: Clarence Reese Jr. and Chris Williams
    Friendship House: Barksdale Annex
  • Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office – Team Name: Purple Stars
    Coach: Lifford Jackson
    Friendship House: Highland
  • Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office – Team Name: Purple Reign
    Coaches: SVU Unit
    Friendship House: MLK
  • Shreveport City Marshal’s Office – Team Name: Purple Panthers
    Coach: Heather Johnson
    Friendship House: Queensborough

With an enthusiastic crowd cheering them on, the teams showcased not only their athletic skills but also their commitment to raising awareness for a vital cause. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers, laughter, and even a few friendly rivalries igniting the spirit of competition.
