Shreveport, Louisiana, was the place to be last Saturday as the sun shone brightly, and the community came together for a wonderful cause. With temperatures reaching a lovely 82°F and a light breeze in the air, families and friends flocked to Bill Cockrell Park for the third annual “Kick Against Domestic Violence” kickball tournament, organized by the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.
The aim of this spirited event was clear: to raise awareness about domestic violence while having a great time! The Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office partnered with various local agencies, including the Shreveport Community Renewal Friendship Houses, Shreveport Police Department, Shreveport Fire Department, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office. Each agency sponsored children from their respective Friendship Houses, bringing smiles and a sense of community belonging to many.
Starting from 10 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m., the day was filled with cheerful activities. Families enjoyed the sunshine while indulging in delicious food from several local vendors. Admission was free, making it an accessible event for everyone to join in on the fun. What better way to spread awareness than through laughter, competition, and a shared goal?

With an enthusiastic crowd cheering them on, the teams showcased not only their athletic skills but also their commitment to raising awareness for a vital cause. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers, laughter, and even a few friendly rivalries igniting the spirit of competition.
While everyone enjoyed the games, it was essential to remember why events like this are organized. Domestic violence is a grave issue, affecting countless individuals and families. The tournament highlights the need for awareness, support, and community engagement in tackling this serious subject head-on. It serves as a reminder that everyone can play a part in creating a safer environment for victims and survivors.
As the day wrapped up, participants and visitors alike shared in the joy of community spirit. Whether it was through playing, cheering, or simply being present, each person contributed to the larger mission of spreading awareness about domestic violence.
Shreveport truly shined last Saturday, not just in weather but in heart as well. By coming together, the community demonstrated that with compassion and teamwork, we can help illuminate the path away from violence and toward healing.
