Sponsor Our ArticlesSHREVEPORT, La. — In a desperate attempt to find his missing guide dog, Carson, Shreveport resident and visually impaired individual Rick Colbert is now offering a $1,000 reward for any information that helps locate Carson.
On the night of July 4th, Colbert placed Carson in his backyard for a routine bathroom break, intending to bring him back in soon after. However, when he returned, he found his golden retriever waiting alone – Carson was missing.
Carson, an eight-year-old blockhead black lab, has served as Colbert’s guide dog for almost seven years. At the time of his disappearance, he was not wearing his collar or any identification tags. The presumption is that Carson may have been frightened by the night’s fireworks display and fled the scene.
For Colbert, who resides at 178 Charles Ave, Carson’s disappearance is not just the loss of a pet, but a vital partner who played an indispensable role in navigating his life as a blind person. Carson was trained to guide him through traffic, warn him of potential hazards, and even perform certain tasks in the home.
In his pursuit to find Carson, Colbert took to several social media platforms posting on numerous Facebook pages. His posts appeared in various local groups, including the Broadmoor neighborhood page, as well as lost and found pet pages.
Colbert is also making his contact details public in the hope that anyone who sees Carson will get in touch. You can reach him at 318-470-1891 or through his email – RICKCOLBERT5611@gmail.com.
As of now, despite several leads, the search for Carson continues. Nearby neighborhoods are being scoured, and reports of any black labs being sighted are being followed up on. Colbert is heartbroken but remains hopeful that with the public’s help, Carson will soon be returned to his side.
Often, missing pets are found within a few miles of their homes, and Colbert urges everyone in the vicinity to keep an eye out for Carson, especially considering his crucial role as a guide dog. As we all continue to wish for Carson’s safe return, this story serves as a heartfelt reminder of the strong bond between humans and their service animals.
