"Mardi Gras Krewe Parade Agreement"

Shreveport Mardi Gras Krewes Secure Three-Year Agreement With Local Governing Body

SHREVEPORT, La.

Shreveport’s renowned Mardi Gras celebrations are set to continue, with a new three-year deal in place. Highlighting the city’s commitment to this bustling local tradition, Mayor Tom Arceneaux recently announced that the local governing body has landed a three-year agreement with both Mardi Gras Krewes Gemini and Centaur. These celebrated krewes are notorious for hosting vibrant parades, a key staple of the city’s annual Mardi Gras festivities.

Commitment to Mardi Gras 2025-2027

This notable deal ensures that Mardi Gras festivities in Shreveport will proceed as planned for the years 2025, 2026, and 2027. Upon revealing the agreement, Mayor Arceneaux thanked both krewes for their cooperation and city department heads for their strategic support. Acknowledging the efforts put forth to guarantee the success of 2024’s Mardi Gras season, the Mayor expressed confidence in committing to a multi-year agreement going forward.

Changes in Parade Schedule

Despite the forthcoming seasons’ secured position, festivities will not proceed without slight alterations. This mainly applies to the controversial scheduling of the Gemini and Centaur parades. Historically, these renowned parades began mid-afternoon and continued until after sun down. Learning from the preceding year’s expedited start time, parade organizers intend to begin festivities earlier in the day to avoid proceedings lingering into the dark. The city and participating krewes have prioritized safety above all, leading them to this agreement. However, Mayor Arceneaux has not yet provided specific time frames for forthcoming parade starts.

Route Remain Unchanged

Parade enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the established parade route will remain unchanged. As per tradition, parades will commence at Lake Street and subsequently terminate at the Duck Pond. Mayor Arceneaux reassured residents and visitors alike, stating the city houses adequate resources to guarantee safety measures along the entire parade route.

The Importance of a Multi-Year Deal

Furthermore, Mayor Arceneaux explained the strategic motivations behind the agreement’s three-year duration. Given the significant alterations experienced in 2024, the Mayor intended to avoid making assumptions about future celebrations without first evaluating the success of changes. The implementation of this agreement also allows the involved krewes to coordinate their respective plans confidently and without time pressure.

Despite Bossier city receiving a financial boost from Shreveport’s Mardi Gras celebrations through both sales and hotel motel tax, the Mayor confirmed no discussions have yet taken place about Bossier’s possible contributions.

This shared celebration will undoubtedly continue to bring joy, community spirit, and financial prosperity to the city’s community for at least three more years. With safety and service improvements continuing to be at the forefront of preparations, Shreveport residents and visitors alike can expect stunning celebrations in years to come.

Stay Tuned for More Updates

As the city eagerly anticipates the next three years of Mardi Gras festivities, further information about parade start times and additional event details will be available in due course. Be sure to stay informed about these wonderful community celebrations as the city continues to bring the spirit of Mardi Gras to Shreveport.
