Patrol car near construction zone
Shreveport, LA – In a regrettable incident this past Thursday morning, a Shreveport law enforcement patrol car struck a pedestrian, who later succumbed to his injuries. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Charles Page, was announced dead by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
The fatal incident occurred just after 1 a.m. at the busy intersection of E. 70th Street and Line Avenue. A patrol supervisor present on the scene has stated that the on-duty officer was driving on E. 70th with a green light at the intersection when the incident occurred.
Visibility was reportedly made difficult due to a blanket of concrete dust from nearby construction work. This resulted in the officer not seeing Page, who was crossing the street at the time of the accident. According to initial investigations by the Shreveport Police Department, the victim was detected to be in the road and was clad in dark clothing.
Immediately after the incident, the critically injured Charles Page was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical assistance. Sadly, he could not be saved and was declared dead shortly after his arrival. The nature and severity of his injuries have not been released to the public.
Following the crushing incident, the involved police officer was transported to Willis Knighton for procedural tests, as is routine in such circumstances. The specifics of these evaluations have not been disclosed, and the officer’s identity remains confidential at this time.
In light of this tragic incident, the Shreveport Police Department extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Charles Page. A spokesperson for the department assured the public of a meticulous and transparent investigation into the incident, as part of their commitment to efficiency and justice.
The unfortunate occurrence has sent ripples of shock and sorrow across the community. The incident serves as a somber reminder about road safety measures during construction activities, especially in the dark. It calls for the extra caution to be exhibited on our roads, by both pedestrians and drivers.
