In a heartbreaking incident that shook the Shreveport community, one police officer lost his life, and another was critically injured in a tragic rollover crash on Friday afternoon. The accident occurred at around 2 p.m. on W. 70th Street at Broadacres Road, a location known to many locals.
According to reports from Shreveport police, two off-duty officers were driving in a blue Mustang when they collided with a white van. The van’s driver reportedly attempted a left turn, inadvertently placing them in the path of the officers’ vehicle. The impact was severe, causing the Mustang to skid down the roadway before veering into a vacant house, where it rolled over.
The tragic outcome saw Officer Matthew Rhoden, 37, losing his life in the wreck. Meanwhile, the other officer, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health hospital for urgent medical treatment. Thankfully, the driver of the white van escaped unharmed.
The aftermath of this tragedy has left the Shreveport community heartbroken. More than 20 emergency responders, including Shreveport police, state troopers, and firefighters, arrived at the scene to assist.
