Shreveport, LA- Two local police officers were injured last night when they were bitten by a dog amidst the arrest of a man involved in a domestic dispute. The officers responded promptly to a 911 distress call from a child around 10:30 p.m. on the 1100 block of Leander Street.

The call indicated that a woman was being harmed by a man later identified as Juan Vargas, aged 32. After arriving at the scene, the law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended the suspect.

However, during the arrest, the family’s dog attacked the officers. Both officers received minor injuries from the dog bites but were otherwise unharmed.

Arrest and Charges against the Abuser

After subduing both Vargas and the dog, the officers arrested Vargas and transported him to Shreveport City Jail. He was booked immediately on severe charges consisting of domestic abuse battery with strangulation and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.

Family Dog Taken into Animal Control

Following the incident, animal control was brought in to take possession of the dog. The officers involved in the incident received appropriate medical treatment and are expected to return to duty shortly. No further injuries were reported from this incident.
