Just a couple of days following a state of emergency declaration by the Shreveport Mayor targeting three problematic apartment complexes, a successful sweep of the infamous Jolie Apartments was echoed by the Shreveport Police Department (SPD).
With the morning sun illuminating their course of action, the SPD, spearheaded by its Special Response Team, conducted an extensive door-to-door search at The Jolie Apartments. The operation, promptly relayed by the SPD Facebook page, comes just after Mayor Tom Arceneaux unequivocally stated the city’s right to arrest individuals involved in illicit activities such as drug trafficking, prostitution, and trespassing, during a press briefing on June 5.
A report through the same Facebook page announced that the operation led to 29 people being removed from the premises with one person arrested on narcotics charges. The operation resulted in over 400 apartments being cleared in several buildings with the backup of approximately 50 SPD officers.
Mayor Arceneaux expressed his satisfaction with the operation. He acclaimed the smooth and effective execution of the plan as an emblem of commendable police work. “The citizens of Shreveport should be proud of this morning’s efforts by Shreveport Police,” exclaimed Arceneaux.
After this sweeping success, the area will remain under strict police surveillance, as stated by the SPD. The emergency declaration by the Mayor will continue to affect the apartment complex until July 3. The police will forcibly remove and if necessary, arrest any individual found on the property, as per the Mayor’s declaration.
This operation marks a significant turn in the battle against crime in Shreveport’s troubled neighbourhoods. However, it remains to be seen if this action will be a permanent solution or just a temporary relief for the residents of the community.
