Sponsor Our ArticlesSHREVEPORT, La. – In a decision that’s set to brighten up the roads leading to one of the area’s busiest travel hubs, Shreveport Regional Airport is gearing up for a makeover of its roadway signs. Those familiar with the airport’s signage might have noticed a certain absence: a friendly little airplane symbol that helps indicate where the airport is located. It’s common in many cities across the country, but it has been missing right here in our backyard!
A recent board meeting turned into a pivotal moment for the local airport, with the board chairman advocating for the addition of the airplane symbols to existing road signs. Mark Crawford, the airport’s spokesperson, explained, “This symbol will really assist those who are not familiar with the area, including new residents and visitors who may be confused about which exit to take.”
It’s all about making it easier for everyone to find their way. Think about it: someone visiting Shreveport for the first time, maybe there’s a family reunion or an important business meeting. They’re zipping down the road, and wouldn’t it be nice if they could spot a clear sign showing them exactly where to go?
While the decision is made, there’s still a bit of a journey ahead before those shiny new signs pop up. According to Crawford, the airport has been working with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, navigating the necessary steps for the signage update. “It’s a process, and we need unanimous approval from the Shreveport Airport Authority Board before we can move forward,” he noted.
As exciting as it sounds, patience will be key as the details are finalized. However, one thing is for sure: once the new signs are in place, they will surely make a difference in helping travelers find their flight paths, quite literally!
For those wondering about costs, here’s some good news! The Shreveport Regional Airport is an enterprise fund, which means they generate their own revenue to cover operational expenses. Crawford reassured the public, saying, “We will be paying for the installation and manufacture of these signs through our funds.” So, no extra cost to taxpayers here – win-win!
In addition to airport updates, let’s take a quick glance at what’s happening with the weather around Shreveport. Today, expect some intervals of clouds and sunshine, with a warm high of about 82°F. As the evening rolls in, though, don’t forget to grab an umbrella! There’s a 40% chance of showers heading into the night, with temperatures dipping down to around 52°F. Winds will be blowing, keeping the air fresh for anyone out enjoying the day.
As Shreveport continues to grow and evolve, it’s nice to see steps taken to welcome new visitors. Whether folks are flying in to enjoy the beautiful landscapes or attend a family gathering, clear signs showing them the way to the airport will certainly make Shreveport even more appealing. Stay tuned for updates on when those signs will officially be flying high!
Until then, enjoy the lovely weather, and let’s hope for a smooth flight for all our traveling friends!
