Sponsor Our ArticlesHey there, Shreveport! Have you ever taken a drive around town and noticed something a little off about our road signs? Well, if you’ve ever tried to find your way to the Shreveport Regional Airport, you might agree that something was missing. That’s right! While many cities across the USA have airport symbols on their directional signs, Shreveport has been lagging behind. But hold onto your hats because change is in the air!
This Thursday evening, a big vote is expected that could finally address this issue. According to Mark Crawford, the friendly spokesperson for Shreveport Regional Airport, it was actually the board chairman who kicked off the conversation about adding that oh-so-familiar airplane symbol. After all, many folks—whether they’re just visiting or have moved here recently—may not know which exit to take to reach the airport.
Many towns and cities proudly display symbols on road signs to help travelers navigate easily. And it looks like Shreveport is finally ready to join the club! Mark noted, “This addition isn’t just for the benefit of locals who might know the way; it’s about making things easier for new visitors and anyone unfamiliar with our roads.”
Now, before you start picturing those shiny new signs popping up overnight, it’s essential to understand that there are a few steps that need to happen first. The airport team has been in discussions with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Once the vote by the Shreveport Airport Authority Board takes place, both the airport and the DOTD will need to reach a unanimous agreement to move forward. So, fingers crossed!
You might be wondering, “Who’s going to pay for all this?” Well, rest easy! According to Crawford, the airport is entirely self-funded. He explained, “We’re an enterprise fund, meaning we generate all our own operating dollars. So, we will be paying for the installation and manufacture of these signs ourselves.” Isn’t it great to know that the funding is sorted out?
As for how long it will take for the airplane symbol to grace our road signs? Well, that’s still up in the air (pun intended!). Officials are working hard to get everything sorted, but it may take a little bit before the signs make their debut.
You might be asking, “Why bother with an airplane symbol in the first place?” Well, the answer is simple! As our charming little city welcomes more visitors, it’s vital to make things easy for them. An airplane symbol can be a subtle yet effective way to guide travelers to their destination without unnecessary confusion.
With a vote on the horizon and a growing awareness of the need for better signage, Shreveport is finally gearing up to make our highway signs more traveler-friendly! So, if you find yourself cruising down the road soon and spot a new airplane symbol signaling the way to the airport, you can wave that friendly hello and know you’ve patiently waited for this little change in our lovely city.
So here’s to new symbols and simpler navigation! Keep your eyes peeled for those signs as they take to our roads, and feel free to share your excitement with friends and family.
