Sponsor Our ArticlesIn a shocking turn of events late Monday night, one person has been pronounced dead following a shooting on Westover Road, near Mansfield Road, Shreveport. Local Shreveport Police received reports of gunfire and immediately responded, arriving at the scene at around 11:48 PM on Monday, July 15.
According to eyewitness reports, two men were standing outside when they allegedly fired shots at a group of people down the street. Two members of the group retaliated, chasing the shooters and resulting in an exchange of gunfire which carried the dangerous situation further into the neighborhood. One man was shot during the exchange and fled to a nearby house.
The wounded man was privately transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. However, the deadly incident sparked an immediate response from the local authority.
As police arrived on the scene, two vehicles were spotted heading in opposite directions on Hearne Avenue, which is close to the crime scene. Despite the presence of emergency lights and sirens, neither vehicle stopped, and a tense chase ensued.
Vehicle 1,which fled southbound on Hearne Avenue, soon lost control and crashed into a utility pole in the 6000 block of the same avenue. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 24-year-old Demond Taylor, attempted to escape the crash on foot. However, he was soon apprehended by a K9 unit and taken into police custody.
Taylor now faces several serious charges, including aggravated flight from an officer, property damage, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest.
The second vehicle spotted during the arrest scene was later found to have transported the fatal shooting victim to the hospital. As of 5 AM the following morning, Shreveport Police Department (SPD) stated that they had detained four people pending charges related to the incident.
