Shreveport has experienced a tragic wave of violence with two fatal shootings occurring within a single day. An elderly man was shot on East 70th Street, while a pharmacy representative was killed during a robbery attempt at Walgreens. Local authorities are on high alert, urging the community to remain vigilant as they seek the suspects responsible for these crimes.
In a deeply unsettling turn of events, the city of Shreveport was rocked by two fatal shootings, occurring merely a day apart. The first incident unfolded on January 22 and was followed by another shocking event on January 23, shedding light on a troubling cycle of violence impacting the community.
The calm of a typical Tuesday afternoon was shattered around 2 p.m. on January 23 when emergency crews rushed to respond to a shooting on East 70th Street. This unfortunate incident occurred in an area between Thornhill and Line Avenues, not far from a bus stop across from a bustling Popeyes restaurant. Eyewitness accounts have described the scene as chaotic.
Upon arrival, paramedics found an elderly man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Tragically, despite being transported to a local hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in mourning. Activating an extensive response, over a dozen units from the Shreveport Police Department, including skilled homicide detectives, were deployed to piece together the details surrounding this heartbreaking event.
Authorities soon identified the shooter as DeAndre Webb, a 25-year-old man who fled the scene shortly after the tragic altercation. Fortunately, he has since been apprehended and is now facing charges of second-degree murder.
The chaotic scene forced nearby Byrd High School to go on lockdown as a precaution, underlining the gravity of the situation. After the shooting, the assailant fled the scene in Jamison’s stolen white van, sending ripples of fear through the community.
In the aftermath of the Walgreens shooting, police ramped up their efforts to locate the suspected shooter. The individual, identified as Larry Lewis, is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted for his possible involvement in Jamison’s death. Lewis also has a warrant for an unrelated incident, adding further urgency to his capture.
With the threat still looming, Bossier City schools implemented restricted movement protocols as police scoured the area for Lewis. In a show of solidarity, Caddo Crime Stoppers has stepped in to raise the reward for any information concerning Lewis to an impressive $5,000.
In light of these distressing incidents, local authorities are urging community members to secure their homes and vehicles more than ever. It serves as a heart-wrenching reminder of the reality of violence that has unfortunately touched Shreveport.
The Shreveport Police Department is calling for anyone with insights or information regarding either shooting to step forward. The impacts of such tragedies resonate far and wide, and community cooperation may hold the key to restoring a sense of safety for everyone in the area.
