SHREVEPORT, La. – Exciting times are ahead for the Caddo Parish Schools as new Superintendent Keith Burton kicks off his much-anticipated listening tour! The first stop was at Booker T. Washington High School, where he engaged with parents, teachers, staff, students, and anyone in the community eager to share their thoughts. It’s all about connecting with those who know the schools best!
From the very start, Burton made it clear that he wants to hear from you. He understands that creating the best environment for students requires a team effort. “We need input from everyone,” he stated energetically. “Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, or even a student, your voice matters!”
Burton recognizes the tough challenges facing the district but he believes that together, they can work through them. “Let’s be real,” he said. “There is not a quick fix to this. Many of the challenges we are facing are generational.” With a determined look, he outlined his plan: “We are focused on three main things.”
The superintendent laid out his vision, which revolves around ensuring students receive high-quality resources. First on his agenda is to provide essential tools that can make a difference in the classroom. This includes ensuring that every student has access to the materials they need to succeed.
Secondly, time is crucial! Burton mentioned the need for flexible schedules to accommodate students who require either more time to catch up or those who need acceleration. “Some students may need a double block of instruction,” he explained, sharing his commitment to giving students the time they deserve.
Finally, Burton emphasized the importance of having the very best teachers in the classroom. “We know that not every school is getting the top-notch educators they deserve,” he pointed out. To combat this challenge, he announced several incentives designed to attract talented teachers to the district’s most in-need schools. “We’re serious about this,” he said with conviction.
If you missed today’s session at Booker T. Washington High School, don’t worry! Burton has a whole lineup of tour stops planned, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to weigh in. Here’s your chance to take action:
