The most notable water main break is located at Gilbert Drive and Boulevard Street, where repair crews are currently working to resolve the issue. The icy conditions have made the repairs challenging but crews are determined to restore service as quickly as possible.
Another break has been reported at Highland and East Washington Street, adding to the list of locations impacted by the freezing weather. Meanwhile, part of downtown Shreveport is experiencing a water outage following a significant break on Texas Street. The outage has impacted several blocks, including the 100-200 block of Texas Avenue, the 100 block of Milam Street, and the 400-500 block of Spring Street among others. The extent of this service interruption has compelled some local businesses to shut down operations temporarily. The local establishment, The Blind Tiger, has notably closed its doors due to the loss of water service.
According to the Water and Sewer Director, the repair work across the city is expected to take several hours. As crews work tirelessly to fix the breaks, residents are advised to remain patient. It’s a tough situation, but the city is doing its best to restore service while keeping safety a priority.
In addition to repairing the water issues, SWEPCO and the City of Shreveport’s Department of Water, Sewerage, and Environmental Services are proactively preparing for an anticipated winter storm.
