Shreveport Calls for Public Participation in Citywide Water Tower Design Project

Shreveport is asking for your help in a citywide design project

The City of Shreveport is inviting all artists and citizens to connect with the city by submitting proposal concepts for the exterior design of water towers. The Department of Water and Sewerage is collaborating with the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC) and Clean Water Shreveport to create an initiative to repair and redesign three water towers within the city.

Locations of the Water Towers

These locations include:

  • St. Vincent Tank: Located adjacent to Interstate 49, near the intersection of Pierremont Ave. and Hollywood Ave. (Exit 203 on I-49).
  • West Shreveport Tank: Located adjacent to Interstate 20, west of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop (Exit 8 on I-20).
  • Linwood Tank: Located adjacent to Interstate 49 in South Shreveport, near the Flournoy Lucas Road crossing.

“This project exemplifies the power of collaboration between the arts and public infrastructure to inspire creativity and community engagement,” said Pam Atchison, Executive Director of the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.

Mayor’s Excitement

Shreveport Mayor, Tom Arceneaux said, “we are excited to engage our vibrant artistic community in revitalizing these key structures in our city.” He continued by saying, “by infusing creativity into our infrastructure, we aim to celebrate the unique spirit of Shreveport and foster a sense of pride and belonging among our residents.”

Selection Process and Theme

According to SRAC, the selection process will ensure that the chosen design will capture the essence of the city’s identity, while also adhering to the theme of “I Love Shreveport.” Artists are being encouraged to submit proposals that convey a positive message about the city through its rich heritage and vibrant culture.

“We believe that by involving artists from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, we can create truly impactful designs that resonate with the people of Shreveport,” said Atchison.

Eligibility to Participate

To be eligible to participate in this project, you must have a connection to Shreveport through being a current resident, former resident, property owner, or someone with significant ties to the community. If you meet these requirements, you are invited to submit your concept designs for consideration. Selected proposals will undergo professional design and painting by an external firm.

Conclusion

The initiative to involve the community in redesigning the water towers of Shreveport showcases a unique collaboration between art and public infrastructure. This project not only aims to beautify the city’s landmarks but also to instill a sense of pride and belonging among its residents. Artists are encouraged to submit their proposals that reflect the rich heritage and vibrant culture of Shreveport in line with the theme of “I Love Shreveport.” This initiative highlights the city’s commitment to fostering creativity and community engagement.
